Seven tips on getting ready for a mummy night out

Pre-kids I’d be out a few times a week in the evenings. Whether it was dinner outings, work events, dancing to our favourite DJs’ tracks in clubs or parties, the week always involved a good night out. Now I’m a mama, things are obviously different. So when I do have a night out I need to be organised as I can be. The getting ready part of a night out is important to me. I want to feel great about what I’m wearing. It’s a bit of free pampering and me-time. It’s what I call a me-treat. This means I have to be a bit organised (note: just a bit and nothing goes to plan). I can’t always do night outs so sometimes I plan outings with friends at the weekends for a few hours. So here’s 7 tips on getting ready for a mum night (or morning/afternoon) out… Continue reading

Time to Shine: 7 ways you can help someone going through a bereavement by Jeni Whitchurch

I met Jeni at the BritMums bloggers’ conference in June 2016.  I love Jeni’s writing over at Where I Write blog. Jeni writes stories, pieces of creative writing, and articles to express her joy and pain, fear and faith. To question. To examine. To celebrate. To express. She writes as she journeys through loss, marriage, motherhood, vocations and seeing the beauty of life that threads through it all.
Jeni and I have shared our personal stories with each other. I respected her honesty. We have both been through our own forms of bereavement. So, I asked Jeni to write something for Time to Shine (where people can borrow my blog). I wanted to feature something that we rarely talk about – what can we do or say to those suffering from a bereavement. My view is that a bereavement may not always be about death. Bereavement can be about the many losses we may sadly encounter through life. Someone who is no longer there or something that is no longer there. Over to Jeni…

Lucky Things Food: Review of Bufi, East Finchley, London

Bufi is a wonderful Italian family-run restaurant based in the centre of East Finchley, North London. The N2 branch opened in 2013 and it’s run by Sofia. As we’ve lived in North London for over 8 years now we’ve come to love lots about the East Finchley area. It’s bang in the middle of some great hubs: Highgate, Hampstead and Muswell Hill. We often venture to East Finchley and Bufi is one of our favourite places to eat.

Lucky Things Kids: A brunch date with Little Tikes and play expert Emma Kenny

It was fun catching up with the Little Tikes and Azaria PR team to check out the new Little Tikes Baby range. On my way into London town on Wednesday, I gave up my seat for a lady as she was expecting. I started chatting to the couple who were going to become parents for the first time. They were so inspiring. They had a really fresh outlook as parents-to-be. We talked about the pressure to read lots of parenting -baby books. We agreed it was just about finding your own groove and getting to know your baby. I’m so excited about their new journey. They have lots to look forward to, especially when it comes to watching their little ones grow and develop through everyday play time.

Lucky Things Wellbeing: Why it’s important to drink lots of water all year round

We’ve been lucky enough to enjoy some really hot days over the past couple of months. The hotter it was, the more I realised I needed to drink more water. I’m usually quite good at reminding the girls to drink extra water when the days have been warmer.  Now Autumn is definitely here. I no longer need to freeze my water bottles to keep them cool in the sweltering heat. Room temperature is just fine. Whatever the season, we still need to stay hydrated. We all know that water has so many health benefits but somehow we don’t get round to drinking quite enough. So here’s 7 reasons why it’s good to drink lots of water all year round… Continue reading

Lucky Things Blogger: 7 Things I love about the Instagram community

I’ve always had a thing for pictures. Probably around the age I started getting into photography. Also around the time I arrived in London. Then a few years ago Instagram popped up. I loved it. I could look at pictures for ages. Flickr appeared in my life but we didn’t have the same bond. Having launched @luckythingsblog properly about 6 months ago now I’ve loved what my Instagram has grown into.

Lucky Things Style: 7 Things from my Summer wardrobe I’ll be wearing in Autumn

img_6530What is the weather doing at the moment? Last week there was a heatwave and the Saltwater sandals were out again. Yesterday it was all about tights (only 10 denier ones though, no way I’m getting the opaques out yet). My wardrobe is pretty reliable for the unreliable British (and London) weather.  There are some things that have been in my wardrobe for years that come out in most seasons. I never move all of my Summer favourites out as we approach the new season changeovers. Some items are all year round friends.

Here are 7 of my wardrobe favourites that will happily take me through to Autumn… Continue reading

Lucky Things Inspire: MAMA by Rachael Kellett

I first came across Rachael Kellett and her lovely MAMA gear on Instagram @RachaelKellett. I also noticed it popping up on lots of other Instafeeds. I love what it stands for. There can also be lots of negative connotations with the word mummy or mama as women may feel they have suddenly replaced their original identity with a new role full of high expectations. Rachael’s MAMA gear celebrates all things MAMA; who you are now and who you still are. Her Mama Knows Best treats have a cheeky but confident vibe. Rachael was also hanging out at the Mama Squad Assemble in August. So as part of the Inspire series, here’s what Rachael had to say to Lucky Things blog….
