Why it’s important to celebrate small milestones

When was the last time you celebrated a small milestone or achievement? We are so busy juggling our to-do lists and getting on with everyday life we often forget to give ourselves a pat on the back. Why it’s good to get people together – the first Lucky Things Meet Up

img_8132On a Sunday morning back in September, I realised that I wanted to get people together. A chance to hang out with some of the ladies who I’d linked up with via Lucky Things blog, Twitter and Instagram. It had to be in October. November felt too far away. As everyone was so responsive to the Lucky Things Meet Up idea, it felt easy to organise. Venue booked. E-invites sent out. Treats organised. The first Lucky Things Meet Up, to be held at Drake and Morgan’s The Drift Bar on a Sunday afternoon, was starting to come together.

Don’t forget to check out the follow-up post The Lucky Things Meet Up in Pictures.

Here’s more than seven things why I organised the meet up…

Seven things I wish for my two girls to celebrate International Day of the Girl

11 October 2016 was International Day of the Girl . A day set up by the Unicef to raise awareness of how gender inequality sadly impacts girls from a young age across the globe and in so many communities. So in honour of International Day of the Girl, I’ve popped up a post for my two girls. They are the two best friends who I never imagined would actually be here. If you’ve read or heard anything about our IVF journey, you’ll know more about the 10% figure. My girls were in that 10%. They little warriors (like most kids). They have also helped me to be the resilient mama I am. Here are seven things I wish for you both. I hope you enjoy reading this one day… Continue reading

Lucky Things Inspire: An interview with Yvonne from KemiKids

It’s very easy to not feel good enough for this or good enough for that. Self-doubt is a common feeling  even for the most positive and confident people around us. I first came across Yvonne and her amazing work on Instagram. We started chatting through comments on each others’ InstaFeeds and through our lovely mutual connections on Instagram. You probably know that I’m a fan of bright colours and how important they are in my everyday life. Yvonne’s InstaPics always brighten up my day. Her comments are real, human but also glow with encouragement and positivity. Continue reading

Lucky Things Beauty: Amazing beauty tips from Grace Timothy – Mum Face blogger and vlogger

One of the many highlights of popping along to the Mama Squad Assemble the other Saturday afternoon was hearing Grace Timothy chat about her beauty tips. She set up the Mum Face blog and You Tube channel to share gems of knowledge from her 10 years+ in the beauty industry.

So why did Grace start Mum Face? Whilst working at Glamour magazine, she became pregnant and started getting gestational acne. As she felt her face melting into her laptop (Grace’s words!) she realised she needed to find out what products she was allowed use during her pregnancy. Then when she had her daughter, a new hormonal weirdness appeared.

So Mum Face was born – a women’s-pregnancy-mummy-everyday beauty blog. It’s for everyone. She also wanted to share tips on managing the worse case beauty scenarios! She wanted other women to see products in different ways.  Grace loves trying out products for us as she doesn’t want us to waste our money. Grace is fab at blogging and vlogging as she’s a natural over-sharer. Like a beauty super heroine, she loves busting beauty myths.  Continue reading

Time to Shine: Confidence tips from a career in TV by special guest Kimberly…

A quick welcome to Lucky Things’ Time to Shine…

Before you read this post, I just wanted to add a very warm and hi-five welcome to my first guest writer for the new Lucky Things series. Basically,  Time to Shine lets peeps (I know and don’t know) “borrow my blog”. The main reason for hosting this is because everyone needs their time to shine, be creative, write some nice stuff and not everyone wants their own blog! Plus it’s great learning about others’ real-life experiences.

Lucky Things Career: 7 top tips for networking

Networking can be fun as you get to meet new people or it can really make your stomach churn. We all need to network, not just in the work space but also in other social settings. It could be a friend’s wedding or a new baby group. Throughout my career whether in the media or corporate worlds, networking has played an important part in my different roles. Being on maternity leave and moving to new areas has also forced me to brush up on my networking skills. It isn’t just about networking at big events but also about how you make contacts and build links with peeps on a everyday basis. In June, I set myself a challenge of going to a bloggers’ conference Friday night drinks on my own, not knowing anyone (yikes). Here are 7 top tips I thought about before my networking adventure… Continue reading

Lucky Things Wellbeing: 7 Confidence Energisers

Hey Lucky Things crew, hope your week is moving along nicely. Looking at how bold my 1 year old and 3 year old can be, I really love their confidence. They seem to generate a lot of it themselves. I know that it’s also really important to nurture confidence in your little ones so I’m always thinking of ideas to make them feel good about themselves, especially Big Munch as she has turned 3 and developing more into a little person/threenager!

As grown-ups, we don’t tend to talk about or remember how great we are. We keep it in as we wouldn’t want to come across as self-centred or possibly arrogant. But we’re all amazing human beings who achieve lots as we juggle life’s ups and downs.

All I know is that confidence comes and goes. We also grow our confidence in different ways. I know a lot of my confidence has grown in certain situations. When I worked as a freelancer years ago, I had no choice but to be confident or at least come across as confident. I was working on my own a lot and with different creative teams each week. I was responsible for promoting “my own brand”. I had to network in media circles although I wasn’t sure if people would be interested in me as there are so many talented people out there. On the flipside, there have been times when confidence levels are dented or take a little dip. At the end of the day, deep down we ALL operate on some level of confidence so we just need to give it a little energy boost every now and then. Continue reading
