How I really feel about speaking at Blogtacular?

This time next week, I’ll be in the swing of things at Blogtacular, one of the well-known blogger conferences in the UK. In their own words, “Blogtacular is the place for people whose hearts beat with creativity to come together to meet, share and inspire.” What can I say, it’s going to be epic. I love meeting new (and old) people, I love sharing info and I love soaking up inspiration. During the week of my 40th birthday, I received an email from Kat and Kelly from the Blogtacular crew asking if I’d like to be part of a panel. They have a serious pitch process and as my blog has only been around for about a year, it was quite a WOW moment for me. So how do I really feel about speaking at Blogtacular? Continue reading

Will my daughters wonder why they look different to their mummy?

I know kids are never going to be spitting images of their parents (well some are). For some reason, I always imagined our kids to be mini-mes. As my daughters are mixed-raced, I wonder if they will think about why we all look so different as a little family? Daddy is English-Brummy and Mummy’s family is from Mauritius. It’s an easy explanation but will our daughters get it?  So will my daughters question why they look different to mummy or the other way around? Continue reading

Seven things I’ve learnt from Julianna Margulies  from The Good Wife

I learnt so much from the blogger conference Mom 2.0. The summit officially kicked off with a keynote conversation between actress and producer Julianna Margulies, well known for her leading roles in ER and The Good Wife, and Dove’s #realbeauty Ambassador Jess Weiner. Hearing two incredible and down-to-earth women speak helped to wash away my jet-lag.  Here’s seven things I learnt from Julianna that morning… Continue reading

Dealing with mum guilt

Mental Health Awareness week is 8-14 May 2017 in the UK  and so what better time to chat about the G word – guilt. It’s a weird feeling, sometimes we impose it on ourselves or maybe it’s others who make us feel guilty. When we become a parent, many experience a new kind of guilt – mum guilt (or dad guilt). I define mum guilt as feeling bad as a parent because of a decision you’ve made, how you feel or something you’ve done. It may even make you doubt yourself or create anxieties. It’s a feeling that can come and go or for some it’s an everyday thing. So here’s some tips on how to manage what people call mum guilt… Continue reading

Inspire interview with Anna Lewis from Sketchy Muma

I love doodling, drawing and doing arty things with my two girls. My Mum discouraged me to do A level art. She told me you don’t need to study art to be an artist. She was probably right. Something I love popping up on my Facebook or Instagram feed are the Sketchy Muma drawings by the talented Anna Lewis. They are heartfelt, comical and always ooze emotion. There’s something calm about them although they document the ups and downs on parenthood. Anna lives with her husband and their (nearly) four-year old daughter in Cornwall. Here’s what Sketchy Muma Anna had to say about patience, constant learning and being unique… Continue reading

Top tips on how to stay calm and manage everyday anxiety

Lots of people describe me as a calm person. It’s a word that comes up time and time again. I find it interesting that people call me calm; those who don’t know me that well along with those who have known me for years. On the outside I probably seem quite calm but just like a swan I’m busy paddling quickly underneath. I guess going through different things have given me a perspective on what I really need to worry or panic about. So as we’re all different, how else is it possible to stay calm? Here’s some top tips on keeping your cool and managing everyday anxieties… Continue reading

How to stop comparing yourself to others and dealing with comparison culture

Comparing yourself to others is an everyday thing. It’s what I also call comparison culture. Some people spend a few moments; some people spend heaps of time doing this. For some, it feels manageable as they’re just fleeting thoughts. For others, it can feel exhausting or even bring on anxieties. As we talk a lot about looking after your confidence and wellbeing on Lucky Things, it’s important to talk about how we can stop comparing ourselves to others. Continue reading

Top tips on looking after yourself

Where are the weeks going? There is always lots to do so it’s important we take time to look after ourselves. If we look after ourselves then I believe we’re also able to feel more confident and focused.

It was pretty cool sharing my top tips for looking after yourself to an inspiring crowd at the Lucky Things Meet Up in January. I wrote these top tips especially for the event. As promised, I wanted to share these on the blog too. I know I’ll be looking back at this list throughout the year! Here you go… Continue reading
