Lucky Things Wellbeing: Time to start my no excuses exercise routine

Time to start doing my no excuses exercise routine. I’ve had quite a break from my local yoga classes. I adore anything yoga but recently I’ve been pretty slack at doing any, even having a good stretch at home. That break is growing and it’s been a couple of months now. I guess there are a few reasons why I haven’t been going to my classes:
1. I don’t really want to spend money on classes at the moment

2. I’ve been chilling at home in the evenings

3. I haven’t had the motivation to go out to classes.

4. I need to rest, the week is always busy.

5. I like to wear trainers because they look good not because they’re great for running, jumping and doing proper exercise in. Oh and I could probably list another 10 excuses (note excuses not reasons)

So you can see how my thinking evolves when an opportunity to get fit comes up!

The other week the nursery mums sent round a message on our WhatsApp group. One of the mums who is on mat leave started up a power walkers club. I was totally inspired as she is busy juggling a 3 year old and a 4 month old baby! She also inspired me as she brings baby in the buggy so there’s no excuses.

Two weeks on and I still haven’t made it out for a power walk with the mums. Maybe I’m worried I won’t be able to keep up and I’ll get a stitch like in my cross-country school running days! Maybe I will run out of breath when all I want to do is chat along the way? Maybe I will slow them down and now they’ve been out for two power walks they will be really good? Maybe they will just laugh at me and say “we never thought you’d be so unfit Sunita!” Ladies, I will join you one evening soon. Promise.

Other influences have included:

1.Mary and Emma from Supercharged Club talk a bit about keeping fit.

2.I have friends Sunnah and Julie who are yoga teachers and they have all taught me easy poses to do.I was messaging the talented Anya @Mama.Cheetah last week and loved looking at her yoga-pilates filled Instagram page. I was reminiscing about my post natal yoga classes with Yoga Sisters.

3.I was chatting to a friend the other day about my old love of street dance classes and how I stopped doing them through the whole IVF stuff. Maybe I just need to find a street dance class nearby again.

4.This week I watched Anna from Mother Pukka’s hilarious video on lounge circuit training. Again it reminded me there are no excuses to not do a bit of exercise. I used to do a bit of yoga in the lounge when I was hanging out with the girls on non-work days. They would either ignore me or try and join in! I didn’t make it to her #FlexAppeal flashdance in Trafalgar Square last week. That would have been a perfect opportunity for me to do the running man – one of my favourite exercises.

Too many reminders why doing exercise can be easier than I think. No more excuses. I’m writing this post as a commitment to myself. No more excuses. I AM going to start getting fit. There are a few reasons why I need to do this:

1. My core strength is dwindling again (it was 16 months ago when I had Baby Munch!)

2. I need to strengthen my back as Baby Munch is getting heavy to carry.

3. I know it will lift my mood if I’m feeling tired or a bit flat.

4. I will feel good about myself!

5. Autumnal evenings are on there way and exercise is a great thing to do to keep up energy and creativity levels.

The other night after putting the girls to bed, I found Mr H doing sit ups in the lounge. I was like “OK, I used to do sit ups, I can do this!” Luckily I was already in my lounge wear so I managed to do a few. Then we turned it into a mini workout. I threw in a few press ups combined with lots of yoga child poses in-between. I even tried the plank for 20 seconds (that’s a lot for me folks). The muscles are still kind of there but they sure have been neglected.

Time for no more excuses. It’s time for action and “to get it done” as my friend Alicia says. Hey I can even play one of my playlists in the lounge to get me going. So, I’m going to come up with a mini work out tomorrow night. I couldn’t do it tonight as I was off to a Sorting Self event about family meal planning and dealing with fussy eaters (something else I’d like to get better at!). I did think about my no excuses exercise routine in my head on the drive home though. For yoga and a few core exercises in the lounge I don’t even need to put my trainers on – just need my bottle of Highland Spring water for some #happyhydration, my yoga mat and some music….

So thanks the nursery mums crew,Anna @Mother Pukka, Supercharged Club, Alicia, Sunnah, Julie K, Anya and Mr H. You’ve all given me a gentle kick to start getting a bit fit. Right after a snack, I’m off to do some stretches to some tunes….

What’s your favourite way of getting fit? (no cheeky suggestions!) Do you have a workout routine you can do in the lounge? How do you make time to get fit? What are some of your excuses for not getting round to doing exercise? What do you love about doing exercise? Have you any motivational chat for me? Leave a comment below. Wish me luck everyone!

Great read! So relatable, I feel like most people make up excuses not to exercise, especially when they are out of the routine.

I try to keep fit by doing exercise that I enjoy. Some of the British Bindi bloggers do a Bhangra class weekly (that certainly keeps us on our toes!). I found Joe Wicks – the body coach is brilliant too, 15 minute workouts. These workouts (on YouTube) are easy to follow and convenient – he’s also cheeky too, so it’s entertaining.

Wishing you lots of luck as you get back into it. You’ll have to let us know how it goes.

Yeah go go go! It’s too easy to find excuses. Love the lounge workout idea, hah. You really have to want to do it – but once you start you don’t regret it. My local studios is really flexible with bringing Little P and even M sometimes for a class so you just have to go for it. Love the article x

Hey Kimberly. Thanks for stopping by lovely. Yep that power walk on Thursday night was great! We did take it easy but we walked for nearly 2 hours. Only thing is that I can’t walk properly now – muscles seriously achey!! But hope to do it again next week. That’s cool you can take the kiddies to your studio. No excuses!!! X Sunita

You’re right about doing it once and then it reminds you how great exercise can feel. We went for a long power walk (well semi-powerish with lots of chatting!). Now my muscles have been achey for past two days!!! But I’m def going to try and go next week. Thanks for the encouragement my friend. What tunes are you going to play for your sit ups?

It can be really hard sometimes to find the energy and time to exercise can’t it. I love to go to the gym, mostly because no one bothers me there. I put my headphones on ad off I go.

Hey Ali. Thanks so much for your comment. It was lovely to hear from you! Yes that’s the great thing about going to the gym. You can pop your headphones on and listen to your favourite tunes! #fortheloveofBLOG

I joined our local gym a few weeks back and I go straight after I’ve done the school run. They have a crèche there so I can leave Sophie for an hour or so and get a good workout in. I’ve tried motivating myself to do it at home but aside from yoga or pilates, I always find an excuse not to do it for some reason. The gym is the only way forward for me. Good luck with your new routine! Thanks for sharing on #fortheloveofBLOG
