Lucky Things Style: Gingham love

Gingham is back! Hopefully it isn’t just around for Summer. This week on Instagram someone tried on a nice midi gingham skirt from Zara. It reminded me how much I loved gingham as a teenager. I used to sport the country western look with a red gingham shirt and blue jeans. It was the time when we started getting into secondhand clothes. We didn’t realise how vintage would become so cool, we were just on a budget! Another favourite of mine was a small checked black and white gingham shirt. It was a bloke’s size small so just right for me. Shame I didn’t hold onto that one now. It also reminds me of school days wearing our red Summer school uniform dresses. Luckily there are some nice options out there for us grown-up girls. I definitely prefer black and white gingham, maybe it’s the monochrome love that influences me.

If you’ve seen my recent post on sale shopping I talk about adding “wearability” to your wardrobe. It’s about spending money on things that will have staying power through trends. So on my gingham search,  I’ve come across some pieces which are pretty wearable.

1. Blouse, Zara, currently £9.99 in the sale (was £22.99)

I love that this blouse can be worn all year round. The sleeves are super cute and it’s a more feminine option to wearing a gingham shirt.

2. Tailored fit Gingham Check Shirt Dress, M&S £35

I’m always on the look out for midi length dresses. The belt adds a nice touch. In Autumn, this could still be worn with tights and knee high boots for those cooler days. I’d also team it up with a bright red or yellow cardigan.

3. La Redoute, Drawstring-Waist Gingham Check Shirt, £49

Another feminine shirt that can be worn well in different seasons. The belt make it feel less baggy around the waist.

4. Girls on Film Lightweight Jacket , ASOS currently £16 in the sale (was £54)

Wearing a gingham checked blazer could feel like a bold statement but I think this one is easy to carry off. This would also look great with jeans and a white, black or bright coloured plain top.

5. Off The Shoulder Dress, Warehouse £49

Again I’m loving the length of this dress. Also two trends for the price of one with the Bardot style shoulders. It looks super cute with flats too. Maybe more one for Summer due to the shoulder exposure.

6. John Lewis Gingham Hair Set, Pack of 5, Navy £5

So if you feel like rocking some subtle gingham, how about these cute hair accessories from John Lewis. They’re probably found in the teens section but can still work for us ladies! Rather than wearing the clips on the side, I’d wear them at the back above my ponytail. Even nicer if you share them with your daughter or niece.

7. Monochrome Gingham Check Scarf, Dorothy Perkins £12

I can’t live without my scarves. With this unpredictable Summer, there’s often a scarf tucked away in my handbag. This one is a great one for those cooler days and a nice way to accessorise during Autumn and Winter. Don’t be afraid to double pattern! The rest of your outfit doesn’t have to be plain.

8. Buddly Crafts 30mm Crochet Edge Gingham Ribbon

This is where my budget  and “would love to be an accessory designer” side come out. If you want to keep on trend and add a touch of gingham, get hold of some decent ribbon. The crochet edge on this ribbon makes it more hard-wearing. Wear ribbon as a belt or a hair accessory. You can also tie a bow around your bag. Endless ways to inject a bit of gingham into your outifts all year round.

Oh and one more….Gingham Dress from Tu Sainsburys £20 I saw this dress in our local Sainsburys the other day and it looks great.

So what do you think of gingham? Have you bought any gingham for your wardrobe recently? Let me know what you think and leave a little comment. Enjoy Lucky Things….
