Food: Lunch at Drake and Morgan’s The Folly, City of London

I’ve worked in the City of London for over 15 years. We were spoilt for choice when it came to popping out for lunch or after work suppers. Over the past couple of years I discovered the Drake and Morgan venues for lunch, drinks and supper. All of their venues also do a mean brunch. Here’s seven things I love about The Folly in one of my favourite corners of the City…

  1. Catching up…The Folly is great for catch ups, gatherings and meetings. I’ve used this venue for meetings as well as coffee catch ups with friends.
  2. Spoilt for table choice…I love the different type of tables. From long benches, group table to cosy two seater chairs.
  3. Global cuisine…Sometimes you want to go somewhere with a diverse menu. The Folly does a great Thai curry as well as heart-warming pies. They also do my favourite – a buttermilk chicken burger. This time I went for the venison pie with spiced red cabbage and gravy. Perfect for a cold January day. There’s an option kitchen and it looked pretty organised to me.
  4. Great veggie options…We also like our vegetarian meals so it’s always interesting to see what other options there are on the menu like the halloumi burger and mushroom bruschetta. I also have quite a few friends who are vegetarian so there has to be something for everyone on the menu.
  5. Eat beautifully…Stylish interiors seem to be quite important to the Drake and Morgan venues. But they’re not over the top and still keep things simple. I love the rugs hanging over the banisters and they’re generous with the cushions. Furniture has a smart retro feel.
  6. Spacious…This venue is huge but still manages to feel homely. There is a huge ground floor with lots of windows on two sides of the curved building. There’s also the downstairs bar area looking up onto the mezzanine ground floor.
  7. Cocktails…You’re spoilt for choice for cocktails. Their cocktail chefs take their recipes seriously. I went for two of their non-alcoholic zero proof cocktails. As one of the ingredients for my first choice wasn’t available that day, the bartender came over to see what other cocktail I’d like with my meal. I went for the Apple Pie cocktail with cloudy apple juice, black pepper, maple syrup and ginger. After my main course the bartender made up a virgin mohito for me.

The Folly is located at 41 Gracechurch Street, London, EC3V 0BT. It’s right next door to Monument tube and House of Fraser and open seven days a week. You can book a table online or by calling 0845 468 0102.

Pop over to the Drake and Morgan website to find out more about The Folly and their gorgeous venues across London.

This blog post is in collaboration with The Folly where we were their guests for lunch. All opinions expressed are my own. As you may know by now, food is very important to me so I only go to restaurants where I know I will enjoy the menu and a positive experience.
